It is directed against the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). By binding to VEGFR2 it works as a receptor antagonist blocking the binding of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to VEGFR2. Patients will receive IMC-1121B through a needle in the vein for about one hour, on the 1st day and on the 15th day (every other week) of each cycle for a total of 12 cycles, as long as the disease is not getting worse, there are no excessive side effects, and no other reasons for withdrawal.Approximately 55 patients will be enrolled into the study over an 18 month period in two stages. ImClone have commenced enrollment in a Phase II trial with either IMC-A12 or IMC-1121B in patients with advanced prostate cancer. IMC-A12 is a fully human, IgG1 anti-IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) monoclonal antibody and IMC-1121B is its fully human, IgG1 anti-vascular growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2) monoclonal antibody.
